Wister wins big over over Howe

WISTER – Wister bounced back from a loss to Van Buren Friday with a 13-3 win over Howe Monday.

Less than a week after Wister’s basketball team appeared in the state tournament, the Wildcats did not let their slow start plague them with the win over the Lions.

Wister is 1-0 and is scheduled to visit Oktaha Tuesday. Howe is 0-1 and plays at Cameron Tuesday.

After spotting Howe a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Wister answered with nine runs in the bottom half of the inning and were never challenged.

Riley Crane pitched 2.1 innings, allowing a hit and a run with four strikeouts and four walks for Wister. He was relieved by J. Hammons, who pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up two runs with three walks and two strikeouts. W. Peterson threw the final inning, allowing two hits and striking out two.

Daryton Meeks led the Wildcats at the plate, going 3-4 with three runs and a RBI. Landon Donaho went 2-2 with two runs and Will Bryan had a 2-3 outing with three RBI and a run.

Brody Sullard got the start for Wister and allowed two hits and seven runs with three walks before he was replaced by Andrew Covey, who pitched 1.1 innings, giving up one hit and two runs on a walk and strikeout. Garrett Smith pitched 1.2 innings, giving up three hits and two runs with a strikeout before Wesley Toney finished up by going a third of an inning, allowing three hits and two runs.

Kobe Wooten went 2-3 with two RBI to lead the Lions at the plate.
