Wolves, Pirates take openers

HEAVENER—Heavener scored three times in 10 minutes and all four goals in the first half en route to a 4-0 win over Commerce in the opening round of the Class 3A state soccer Tournament at Harvey Stadium Tuesday evening.
The win earns Heavener, now 11-3, a trip to the Oklahoma City area for Friday’s quarterfinal at 12-1 Casady. Casady defeated Christian Heritage in another opener Tuesday, 5-1.
Poteau also opened at home with a 4-1 win over Miami. The Pirates, now 10-5, host Community Christian Heritage Friday night. Community Christian, now 11-4, edged Harrah, 2-1.
