Heavener’s girls were already down one starter going into their game against Poteau in the opening round of the 2025 basketball LeFlore County Tournament.
See the LCT scoreboard HERE.
Things got even rougher for the Lady Wolves when Brittley Reed, their only senior, went down with a knee injury in the second quarter.
But Heavener overcame those obstacles and held on down the stretch to defeat the Lady Pirates, 43-37, in one of the few competitive games on Monday.
Heavener’s trip through this year’s county tournament gets tougher Tuesday as the Lady Wolves take on the defending tournament champion and top-seeded Pocola at 8:30 p.m. at Spiro.
In other girls games, Panama pounded Bokoshe, 72-10, Wister outscored Cameron, 48-22, Spiro advanced with a 54-19, victory over LeFlore, and Talihina won easily over Arkoma, 56-25.
The theme continued with the boys.
Wister defeated LeFlore, 50-39, Spiro blasted Cameron, 55-25, Poteau edged Whitesboro, 51-37, Talihina had a fairly easy time in a 70-40 win over Bokoshe and Howe smashed Arkoma, 76-28.
The top three seeds in both divisions make their tournament debuts Tuesday as action moves into the second round.
