Obituary for Morris Elder

Morris Herman Elder, 89, of Howe was born Oct. 6, 1932 in the Glendale community in Heavener to Samuel Cleveland and Amanda C. (Martindale) Elder and passed away May 30, 2022 in Oklahoma City.   

Funeral service is 10 a.m. Friday at Mt. View Baptist Church in the Glendale community with Reverend Tim Trent officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. View Cemetery in the Glendale community, under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener. Military honors will be provided by the Poteau Disabled American Veterans #63.

Morris was a lifelong resident of the area, a rancher, farmer, a school teacher, and also worked for the Corp of Engineers until he retired. He was a member of Mt. View Baptist Church. Morris was a 32nd degree Mason. He loved the outdoors and spending time with his family and friends. He was a veteran, where he served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He will be deeply missed by who loved and knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Patsy Elder; two daughters Carolyn Jones and husband Freddy, and Chris Benson and husband Ronnie; three sons Joe Elder, Cy Elder, Lynn Elder and wife Tracie; 14 grandchildren Wes Jones, Rhonda Gatchek, Russell Elder, Toby Benson, Rocky Benson, Brad Benson, Sam  Elder, Kristen Ferguson, Devon Elder, Danica Elder, Danetta Elder, Dalton Elder, Randy Elder and Michael Elder; several great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; special friends Harley and Shelly Boyd, and Michael Weaver; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other loved ones, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Amanda Elder; two infant sons; six sisters Euva Jane, Violet, Bertha Stacy, Bessie Thrift, Dorotha Elliot and Eunice Redman; and four brothers Sidney Elder, Bea Elder, Reid Elder and Gene Elder.

Pallbearers are his Grandsons

Viewing is from 3-8:30 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. until 8 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home.
