Obituary for Shirley Yandell of Poteau

Shirley Ann Kitchen-Yandell of Poteau (formerly of Summerfield) was born Dec. 28, 1941 in Mazie to Howard and Helen (Hefner) Brown and passed away July 7, 2024 in Poteau.

Funeral service is 2 p.m. Thursday at the Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home Chapel in Heavener with Reverend Tim Trent officiating. Burial will follow in Summerfield Cemetery, under the direction of Dowden-Roberts Funeral Home of Heavener.

Shirley was a longtime resident of the area. She was a 1960 graduate of LeFlore High School and of the Baptist faith. She was the Secretary for Latimer County District 3 Office. Shirley loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a loving wife, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Shirley will be missed by all who loved and knew her.

She is survived by her husband of 16 years, Bud Yandell, of the home;

Five brothers Louie Brown, Clyde Brown, Wayne Brown, Joe Brown and Eddie Brown;

A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends whom loved her very much.

She was preceded in death by her parents Howard and Helen Brown; one sister, Helen Stephens; and one brother, Jim Brown.

Pallbearers are Ronny Owens, Sockie Meeks, Thomas Burns, Davy Owens, Mike Cox and Bob Lewis.

Viewing is from noon until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
