As we progress through the legislative session, I want to provide you with an update on recent developments in the Capitol. One of the most crucial aspects of our work is crafting a budget that reflects the needs and priorities of the people of Oklahoma while still being fiscally responsible.

The Senate awaits the House to provide its budget numbers, highlighting the importance of cooperation between the two chambers. While Senate Pro Tem Greg Treat has engaged in discussions with Speaker McCall, the House is yet to share their figures publicly. Despite this, the Senate remains steadfast in its commitment to transparency throughout the session.

For the second consecutive week, the Senate Appropriations Committee meeting was canceled by Senate Appropriations Chairman Roger Thompson. This decision underscores the Senate’s stance that the House must publicly release its budget numbers before committee meetings resume. The Senate has released its proposed state budget and eagerly awaits the House’s figures to move forward collaboratively.

As deadline week concludes, significant progress has been made in processing legislation. Hundreds of bills have passed out of committees and await consideration on the Senate and House floors. With numerous bills in the pipeline, the coming weeks will be pivotal as we vote on measures that impact our state. I will keep you updated on my bills that are still going through the legislative process.

I also want to highlight upcoming legislation that will address immigration issues, outlining penalties for unauthorized entry and stay within the state. These measures aim to ensure compliance with legal requirements while upholding the integrity of our immigration system. It’s important that we address this issue with haste as the Biden administration has abandoned their responsibility on the southern border.
