Week 1 gets season really rolling

The first big week of football games in LeFlore County gets an early start Thursday with a pair of games, including a big matchup between two LeFlore County teams.

After only three games were played last week involving LeFlore County teams, All the county teams are in action this week aside from Poteau, which has a bye and will be back in action next week.

Thursday’s big game had Spiro rally late to down Panama, 12-6, in overtime and Poteau’s JV shut out Talihina, 21-0.

On Friday, Heavener hosts Central Sallisaw, Pocola hosts Hackett, Arkansas and Arkoma visits Midway.

After last week’s 33-32 win over Pocola, Heavener will try to improve to 2-0 for the first time since 2005 when the Wolves host a difficult Central Sallisaw team, which has defeated the Wolves four straight years.

After playing in 0 Week, Poteau is off until next week when the Pirates visit Metro Christian.
