Cowboys fall to Abilene Christian

STILLWATER — Oklahoma State fell to Abilene Christian, 64-59, Monday night in its season-opener at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

Bryce Thompson finished with 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting for the Cowboys (0-1) who cut an 18-point deficit down to three but couldn’t complete their comeback bid, despite forcing five Wildcat turnovers in the final minute.

Mike Marsh – one of six players making their Cowboy debuts — added 13 points and nine rebounds.

Quion Williams grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds and Eric Dailey Jr. and John-Michael Wright each pitched in four assists.

Ali Abou Dibba supplied 15 points and Airion Simmons (11 points, 11 rebounds) secured a double-double for Abilene Christian (1-0), which built a 47-29 lead with 13:25 to play.

OSU freshman Connor Dow helped turn the tide with three triples over the next three minutes but missed a deep one that would have tied the game with 5 seconds left.

Outside of Dow’s explosion, the Cowboy shooters struggled at the foul line (8-of-20) and from long range (5-of-23).

OSU will look to regroup this Sunday against Sam Houston (2 p.m. CT, ESPN+).
