POTEAU—In a matchup of top five teams, top-ranked Poteau came back from an early deficit to defeat fifth-ranked Newcastle, 28-18, Friday at Costner Stadium.
The Pirates, now 12-0, advance to play No. 3 Blanchard in the semifinals at a neutral site that will be announced later by the OSSAA. Newcastle closes at 9-3.
Blanchard defeated Sallisaw, 55-28, to reach the semifinals. Poteau and Blanchard last met in the playoffs in 2021 with the Pirates winning, 45-14. The Lions are 11-1 this year, losing only to Piedmont.
The Poteau and Blanchard winner will play the Wagoner and Ada winner for the 4A state championship at the University of Central Oklahoma.
