Pocola, Wister boys advance
Wister’s boys have had a lot of success over the years in baseball.
Now, the Wildcats are trying to make their mark in basketball. Wister qualified for the 2023 LeFlore County Tournament finals with a 45-36 win over Friday night.
After knocking off second-seeded Heavener, the Wildcats get a shot at top-seeded Pocola at 8:30 p.m. in the finals. That game will follow the girls’ championship game between LeFlore and Howe at 7 p.m.

Both Wister and Pocola broke open close games late to win and advance. Pocola won the earlier game over Spiro, 36-25. The Indians will try to defend their championship from last year against Wister.
In earlier games Friday, Poteau’s boys won the fifth-place game over Panama, 58-46; and LeFlore trailed at halftime before dominating the second half in a 69-41 victory over Arkoma in the consolation championship.
