Poteau vs. Miami a closer look

Poteau and Miami will meet in the opening round of the Class 4A state football playoffs for the second straight year when the Pirates host Miami at Costner Stadium 7 p.m. Friday.

The Pirates defeated Miami, 48-14, in last year’s game.

Poteau enters the contest with a 10-0 record and district champions of District 4A-4. Miami is 6-4 and finished fourth in 4A-3.

The Pirates have been dominating this year, especially in district play. Poteau averages 42 points per game while allowing just over 11. Miami scores 30 and gives up 16.

Miami won four straight games before losing its regular-season finale against Wagoner. The winner of Friday’s game plays the Elk City and Newcastle winner. If Poteau wins, the second-round game will also be at Poteau.

This is a series of previews of all the playoff games involving LeFlore County teams. Tomorrow, we will take a closer look at Spiro’s game at Prague.
