Roland loses despite holding Heavener hitless

Three Roland pitchers teamed up to throw a no-hitter in Tuesday’s district game with Heavener.

But the Rangers still lost as the Wolves manufactured a 4-2 win over the Rangers to complete the two-day sweep after winning Monday’s game in extra innings, 7-6, at Heavener.

The Wolves, seeded sixth in next week’s baseball LCT, scored a run in the fourth, managed two runs in the sixth and added an insurance run in the seventh to capture the win.

Heavener pitchers Noah Ward and Bryce Early did not throw a no-hitter, but came close, allowing only four hits by the Rangers.

Ward started and went 5.1 innings before being replaced by Early, who also got the win in Monday’s comeback victory for the Wolves. Ward allowed two hits and two runs with eight strikeouts and only one walk. Early threw the final 1.2 innings, giving up two hits with three strikeouts.

While the Wolves did not get a hit and had 13 strikeouts against Roland ace pitcher, Carson Wiggins, Heavener received six walks and two players were hit by pitches.

Heavener is scheduled to play Caney Thursday in the Atoka Wood Bat Festival.
