Tennessee woman injured in wreck

A two-car accident at the intersection of Highway 259 and 63 sent a Tennessee woman to the hospital after the accident at approximately 2:29 p.m. approximately four miles east of Muse.

Yarianny Santiago, 22, from Memphis, Tennessee, was a passenger in a 20004 Grand Cherokee driven by Mason Smith, 24, also of Memphis.

Smith failed to stop in the intersection and crashed into a 2008 Honda CRV driven by Makenna Gibbs, 23, of Tontitown, Arkansas.

Santiago was transported to the Talihina Hospital before Air Evac transferred her to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa in stable condition with leg and internal injuries.

Smith reported no injuries. Gibbs was transported to the Talihina Hospital, where she was treated and released.

The conditions of both drivers appeared to be normal. Seatbelts were worn by all. Airbags were equipped and deployed in Gibbs’ CRV.

The accident was investigated by Trooper Michael Scantling, assisted by the Big Cedar Fire Department and LeFlore County EMS.
