In an east vs. west battle at Catoosa’s beautiful stadium Friday night in the Class 4A semifinals, the third time was the charm for Blanchard as the Lions defeated previously undefeated Poteau, 26-14.
Blanchard advances to the 4A finals at the University of Central Oklahoma against Wagoner, a 42- victor over Poteau’s district foe Ada, for the gold ball.
Twice before, Blanchard had traveled to Poteau and came away with a loss. In 2018, Poteau defeated the Lions, 36-14, and the Pirates came away the victors again 2021, a 45-14 victory.
Both those games were quarterfinal contests at Costner Stadium. This battle between a pair of district champions, was a totally different story.
