County elected officers to receive pay increase

By KEN MILAM

POTEAU – LeFlore County elected officers will receive a $600 annual pay boost. Acting as the county Budget Board, officials approved the increase in accordance with a new state statute.

Officials’ pay is based on county population. LeFlore County lost population in recent years, according to the 2020 census.

Their pay may be adjusted again after new elective terms begin.

Assessor Gaylon Freeman raised a question about getting a pay increase that could have been given in 2019, but was never voted on. He said that increase would have been $1,600 to $1,800.

The board said they may revisit the issue at a future meeting.

Two fund transfers were approved — $16,710 from the jail to the Jail Commissary Account and $1,500 from a closed state account to the Community Development Block Grant fund.

End-of-the-month appropriations also were approved.
