Lady Lions roar at state again

Howe’s girls advanced to the Class 2A state championship again with a 74-48 win over Pawhuska Friday afternoon and will meet Dale at 11:45 a.m. in the state championship game at the State Fairgrounds Arena in Oklahoma City.

While Howe advanced to the championship game, Pocola’s boys, the other LeFlore County team playing in the 2A state tournament was not as fortunate as the Indians lost to top-ranked and defending champion Dale, 50-33.

Dale’s girls advanced to the championship game with a 52-47 win over Amber-Pocasset in the other semifinal.

The Lady Lions scored 30 points in the second quarter to take control of the contest as four starters scored in double figures.

Abby Huie made five 3-pointers and scored 15 points, Ashlynn Dalton also added 15, Gracie Lute scored 13 and Jurnee Williams added 11.

This will be the fourth straight year Howe is playing in the state championship game.

Garrett Scott led Pocola with 16 points in the loss.
