As we approach Nov. 11, a day that holds profound significance for our nation, it is fitting to reflect on the rich history and enduring legacy of Veterans Day. Originally designated as Armistice Day in 1919 to honor the fallen heroes of World War I, this day of remembrance evolved into Veterans Day following the conclusion of World War II. Now, for over a century, our country has devoted this day to expressing gratitude and paying tribute to the brave men and women who have served in our armed forces.
Oklahoma, with its deep appreciation for military service, stands as a beacon of honor and recognition for our veterans. The state takes pride in upholding the tradition of celebrating and acknowledging the sacrifices made by those who have selflessly defended our freedom. As citizens, it is our duty to ensure that every veteran receives the respect and appreciation they deserve.
Our gratitude extends not only to individual veterans but also to the five major military installations within our state. These institutions play a crucial role in our communities by providing quality jobs across various sectors, including engineering, healthcare, aviation, and cybersecurity. The training received by our servicemen and women during their military careers equips them with valuable skills that seamlessly transition into civilian life. This not only benefits the veterans as they embark on a second career but also ensures that Oklahoma’s workforce remains enriched with skilled professionals, contributing to the continued growth and prosperity of our state.
On this Veterans Day, I urge you to take a moment to express your heartfelt gratitude to the veterans who have dedicated themselves to the service of our nation. It is heartening to witness the efforts of local schools, organizations, businesses, and individuals who go above and beyond to organize programs and events, ensuring that our veterans are recognized and appreciated. While we may never fully repay them for their sacrifices, we can wholeheartedly demonstrate our gratitude on this special day and every day.
As we honor our veterans, let us also recognize the profound impact they continue to have on our state. Their expertise and dedication extend far beyond their time in the service, contributing significantly to Oklahoma’s diverse industries. Their commitment to excellence and service is a testament to the values that define our great state. I will always be an advocate for our veterans here at the Capitol and will work tirelessly to make sure we support them.
