Top-ranked Dale overcomes Howe

OKLAHOMA CITY – This time, Dale’s girls were not going to be denied against a LeFlore County basketball team.

A year after losing to Pocola in the Class 2A finals and after falling to Howe in the 2019 championship game, the Lady Pirates ended that string with a 48-23 win over Howe to capture the Class 2A state championship.

Dale improves to 31-2. Howe finishes its season 25-7, despite replacing five starters from last year’s team that also reached the state finals.

The Lady Pirates blew out to an 18-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and this time, Howe could never recover.

Howe placed four players in double figures in Friday’s win over Pawhuska, but shot only 17.1 percent against Dale and made only one 3 during the whole game.

Slatey Jo Free came off the bench to lead Howe with six points.
