SHAWNEE—Fifth-ranked Purcell downed sixth-ranked Poteau, 12-5, in the first round of the Class 4A state fast pitch tournament Thursday.
Purcell, now 28-9, advances to play Blanchard, a 1-0 winner over top-ranked Tuttle Thursday, in Friday’s semifinals. Poteau finishes 32-8 in the Lady Pirates’ best record in a decade.
