SHAWNEE – Pocola scored both its runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and held on to defeat Preston, 2-1, in the opening game of the Class 2A fast pitch state tournament Thursday at the Firelake Ballpark in Shawnee.
Pocola improves to 32-4 and plays Oktaha 2:30 p.m. Friday, also at Firelake. The championship game Saturday is at Oklahoma State University. Oktaha won its opener at state with a 10-0 win over Fairland. Oktaha improved to 33-8.
